CALL TO ACTION // Stop A Federal Tax!
Comparing “oranges to oranges” (in this case milligrams of nicotine in vapes vs cigarettes,) if HR 5715 is enacted, vapes would be taxed at a rate approximately 5X higher than cigarettes! Vaping consumers will be paying up to 6¢/mg of nicotine compared to 1.1¢/mg in cigarettes.
The tax hike is just as bad, if not worse, for nicotine pouches, snus, and moist snuff — all reduced risk products compared to cigarettes!

CALL TO ACTION // Pennsylvania: Stop a Flavor Ban!
HB 1161 would ban tobacco and nicotine products in any flavor other than tobacco.

TOBACCO CONTROL // Contradictory Messaging About Vaping
“Folks should refrain from using vapes as a smoking alternative….There may be multiple quit dates in your life, but every smoke-free day will benefit your health.”
Conflicting, irresponsible statements like the above endanger adults who smoke!
It’s undeniable that nicotine vaping is smoke-free and reduces health risks for people who smoke. Yet these “experts” are essentially advising people to keep smoking rather than use a vapor product in-between these (often rare) quit attempts. That is deadly advice!
Is #vaping bad for you, or is it a safer alternative to smoking cigarettes? Well, smoking any substance isn’t going to be healthy for you, but there are studies that show that e-cigarettes available today are unlikely to exceed 5% of the harm from smoking tobacco. pic.twitter.com/1djzXSCQrP

TOBACCO CONTROL // Fighting Harm Reduction
Anti-THR groups are having a hissy fit because companies affected by FDA regulations get to make the argument for their reduced risk products before those groups got a chance to bully the FDA into disregarding science and banning life-saving products. 🤷♂️
The article literally states that PMI was there to argue that their LOWER RISK products “be excluded from the menthol cigarette rule,” (because that will SAVE LIVES!)
The real “lie” here is CTFK pretending that anti-THR groups aren’t going to get FAR more time with FDA than BT. pic.twitter.com/By94eYX1CF

WORLD NEWS // New Zealand To Repeal Bad Tobacco Laws
The Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products (Smoked Tobacco) Amendment Bill was a pet project of outgoing Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. The new coalition government said last week it intends to repeal the most controversial elements of the tobacco bill before they can take effect, but it will require a parliamentary vote.
New Zealand’s new government is going to repeal the generational ban on tobacco sales, leaving Rishi Sunak to carry the torch of Jacinda Ardern’s loony policies alone. https://t.co/aihuF7VMz3 pic.twitter.com/zQBXdCSxYv

RESEARCH // Why Youth Start Vaping
And what is not in the Top 10 list from this study of the most important factors associated with nicotine vaping among adolescents who were previously tobacco-naive?
The availability of non-tobacco flavored products. Hmm…🤔

FDA // Jumping Through the Harm Reduction Hoops
It’s completely antithetical to the protection of public health that low risk harm tobacco products face huge obstacles and continuous scrutiny even after authorization, while deadly combustible products continue to be sold without needing authorization.
Today, FDA filed for scientific review modified risk tobacco product (MRTP) renewal applications submitted by Swedish Match USA for eight General Snus smokeless tobacco products. Learn more: https://t.co/wZLlA3MJNI pic.twitter.com/myou7YjNZC
