CALL TO ACTION // Stop A Federal Tax!

Comparing “oranges to oranges” (in this case milligrams of nicotine in vapes vs cigarettes,) if HR 5715 is enacted, vapes would be taxed at a rate approximately 5X higher than cigarettes! Vaping consumers will be paying up to 6¢/mg of nicotine compared to 1.1¢/mg in cigarettes.

The tax hike is just as bad, if not worse, for nicotine pouches, snus, and moist snuff — all reduced risk products compared to cigarettes!

HB 1161 would ban tobacco and nicotine products in any flavor other than tobacco.

FDA // An Utterly Ridiculous Action

The idea that this action has done anything to “protect public health” or combat youth vaping is utterly ridiculous. If FDA was really serious about improving public health, it would have already authorized the thousands of flavored vapor products that have filed PMTAs.

FDA // Protecting or Posturing?

“For the FDA, vapes shaped like miniature soda bottles and tiny replicas of 1980s-style cell phones create an opportunity to show off the agency’s regulatory might and supposed concern for the well-being of the nation’s children.”

The “concern” that a kid would “mistake a three-inch “drink container” vape for an actual Slurpee” is simply ridiculous and the novelty products aren’t even popular nor are they easy to obtain.

Posturing isn’t the same thing as protecting.

FDA // At-Risk Adults Far Outnumber Vaping Youth

There are 35.6 million adults who still SMOKE combustible tobacco products (with over 28 million smoking cigarettes) and 11.1 million adults who are vaping to NOT smoke, but because 2.13 million youth (just 7.7%) say they had “even one puff” in the past month, the FDA apparently intends to reject over 99% of the low risk vapor products adults say they prefer!

The numbers are clear: adults who smoke and vape far outnumber youth who vape. It’s way past time for FDA to authorize thousands of products that have already been saving millions of lives.

TOBACCO HARM REDUCTION // 2023 E-cigarette Summit

At this key time, the superb E-Cigarette Summit has once again brought together top experts and scientists for an unparalleled exchange of science, evidence and (often conflicting) views. This summary of the 2023 event is a must read for THR advocates!

TOBACCO HARM REDUCTION // Banning and Vilifying Safer Alternatives

Smoke-free snus is popular with nicotine consumers in Sweden, which also has the lowest lung cancer death rate and one of the lowest oral cancer death rates in Europe. This is evidence that Tobacco Harm Reduction saves lives! Yet snus is banned in the EU and vilified worldwide by Tobacco Control.

TOBACCO CONTROL // Misleading For An Agenda

A Vape = A device that aerosolizes a liquid, which could contain nicotine, THC or another active ingredient.

e-Cigarette = A vape that contains a water-based (ie. a water-soluble propylene glycol/vegetable glycerine) nicotine solution.

Vape Pen = A vape that contains an oil-based THC solution.

Public health leaders, lawmakers, government agencies and the media continuously lie to the public by implying that nicotine vaping products (ie. “e-cigarettes”) are the same thing as the illicit, adulterated THC vapes that caused the lung injury outbreak (EVALI). This is an intentional conflation to justify bans and excessive regulations and/or taxes on nicotine products.

Public health must STOP with the misleading conflation!

TOBACCO CONTROL // Vaping Can Cause…Everything

“From the New England Journal of Panic-Inducing Gobbledygook”

RESEARCH // Blaming Nicotine For Adverse Health Effects of Smoke

Studies such as this one increasingly appear determined to blame nicotine for severe health effects, even though their cited sources were studying health effects of SMOKING. While the main active ingredient in tobacco smoke is nicotine, smoke contains thousands of other chemicals, many of which have proven health risks not attributed to nicotine. If smoke-free nicotine products really did carry all of these alleged health risks, it wouldn’t make sense that pharmaceutical nicotine cessation products are generally regarded as safe. Additionally, multiple studies have been published showing that smoke-free nicotine therapies may many benefits with few health risks.

Can you guess why they would now want to scare the public about smoke-free nicotine?
